Cross-border cooperation
Lapland Hospital District and the hospital organizations and authorities of northern Norway and Sweden have been cooperating during many decades, for examples in emergency care and psychiatric care. Organizations have been meeting regularly since 2008.
Residents of the northern parts of Finland, Sweden and Norway have been able to benefit from cross-border emergency care. Helse Nord from Norway, Norrbotten County Council from Sweden, together with Lapland and Länsi-Pohja Hospital Districts and Oulu University Hospital from Finland.
Importantly, the cooperation ensures ambulance services in Tornionjokilaakso between Finland and Sweden and emergency medical helicopter services from Norway to Enontekiö, Utsjoki and Inari.
